Poiana Vadului (outdated Neagra or Neagra de Sus ; Hungarian Feketevölgy ) is a Romanian municipality in the Alba district in Transylvania .
The place Poiana Vadului is also known under the Hungarian name Nyagra .
Geographical location
The municipality of Poiana Vadului is located in the northwest of the Alba district on the Neagra River , a right tributary of the Arieș . With its eleven villages and small hamlets , the municipality extends to the east of the Bihor Mountains . The municipality is located about 24 kilometers northwest of Câmpeni (Topesdorf) , about 65 kilometers (as the crow flies) northwest from the district capital Alba Iulia (Karlsburg) . Poiana Vadlului is surrounded by forests in the center of the Apuseni Mountains in the historic Motzenland .
history
The village as such was first officially put on record in 1909 under the name Niagra . Until 1968 the place was listed under the name Neagra .
However, the settlement has existed for a long time. According to reports by JM Ackner from 1856, chronicles by C. Goos and V. Christescu , gold was panned in the region on the Neagra River during Roman times . On the territory of the municipality, by the locals Vârful Stâna ( ung. Esztena tetö ) called, was in 1914, according to B. Orbán a hillside grave found.
The main occupations of the population are forestry, wood processing and animal husbandry.
population
In 1850 there were 1867 inhabitants in the area of today's municipality; 1861 of them were Romanians and six were Roma . In 1920 the largest population - all Romanians - was registered with 3355. The highest number of Hungarians (7) was recorded in 1890 and 1900, that of Roma (6) in 1850 and 1956. The population decreased from 1920; In 2002, 1304 people (all Romanians) lived in the community.
