history
The first written mention of Cattau comes - depending on the source - from the year 973 or from the year 1182. The names for the settlements were u. a. Kotenni , Catowa and Kathowe . Emperor Otto III. donated the area to the Nienburg monastery . The village was then divided into Klein Kattau and Groß Kattau. In 1205 the monastery owned 12.5 Hufen from Groß Kattau and 10 Hufen from Klein Kattau. Around 1379 Cattau was under the jurisdiction of the Magdeburg cathedral provost . At the beginning of the 14th century, Petrus de Kathawe , a member of the noble family named after the village, was first mentioned in a document. In 1516 the village was desolate . The Nienburg monastery therefore sold the land to the nearby town of Löbejün. At the beginning of the 18th century, Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Köthen bought the area and had a farm built. Since then the place has belonged to Anhalt , the neighboring Wieskau, however, to the Prussian Saalkreis .
On July 1, 1950, it was incorporated into Wieskau , with which it has belonged to the city of Southern Anhalt since July 1, 2010.
Population development
In 1933 Cattau had 91 inhabitants, in 1939 98 people lived in Cattau.
traffic
In Cattau, the L146 road begins in a north-westerly direction. The L147 road crosses the village in a north-south direction . Bundesautobahn 14 with the Löbejün driveway is about four kilometers to the southwest .
