Location of Wieskau in Saxony-Anhalt

View of the place from the north

Wieskau is a district of the city of Southern Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Wieskau is located between Köthen (Anhalt) and Halle (Saale) . Wieskau is located on the Fuhne .

history

Wieskau was first mentioned in a document in 1182. Wieskau was the only place north of the river in this area of the Fuhne that historically did not belong to Anhalt , but to the hall circle of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg . With its annexation to Prussia, the place belonged to the Brandenburg-Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg from 1680 .

With the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 Wieskau was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. The place belonged to the canton Löbejün . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the Saalkreis in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Wieskau was attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and assigned to the Saalkreis. It was thus the only Prussian town north of the Fuhne in the area, surrounded by Anhalt towns.

Wieskau was formerly an independent municipality that moved from the Saalkreis to the former Anhalt district of Köthen during the 1950 district reform . In this context, the district of Cattau was incorporated on July 1, 1950. Wieskau belonged to the administrative community of Southern Anhalt , which had its administrative seat in the municipality of Weißandt-Gölzau .

The Wieskau community was incorporated into southern Anhalt on January 1, 2010 .
