The municipality of Muldestausee covers an area of ​​136.99 km² and has 12,602 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2008).

Muldestausee is located between Bitterfeld-Wolfen and Graefenhainichen in the extreme south-east of the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, mostly east of the Mulde reservoir that gives it its name . With the Muldestausee, the Großer Goitzschesee and parts of the Seelhauser See , the municipality has a share in the Saxon Lake District . The east of the community is in the Dübener Heide . The Mulde is the largest flowing body of water in the municipality .

history

The community was created on January 1, 2010 as part of the municipal area reform from the transformation of the administrative community Muldestausee-Malerbach into a unified community . In addition to the ten member communities of the previous administrative community, the communities of Mühlbeck and Friedersdorf (previously the administrative community of Bitterfeld-Wolfen) are also districts of the new community. The municipal administration is located in the Pouch district.

The districts Friedersdorf and Mühlbeck together form the first book village in Germany.

The mayor Ferid Giebler (independent) is an additional member of the municipal council. He was elected in a run-off election on November 6, 2016 with 75.8 percent of the valid votes for a term of office of seven years.
