Ernst Lausch, ca.1862

Life

Lausch was born in Friedersdorf in 1836 in the building of the "Zum Stern" inn. Lausch studied in Weißenfels and then became a teacher in Zeitz . In 1858 he moved to Wittenberg as a lower school teacher, receiving diverse suggestions for numerous writings. His enthusiasm for sports also led him to write various treatises on physical exercise. On May 12, 1862 he founded the men's gymnastics club 1862 in Wittenberg, together with 28 people from the city, which still exists today. In 1863 Ernst Lausch took part in the gymnastics festival in Leipzig for the Wittenberg MTV . The Wittenberg gymnastics club built its own gym in 1865, which was expanded again in 1910.

Lausch appeared as the long-time editor of the “Schulblatt der Provinz Sachsen”. However, he had to give up his teaching job for health reasons and died at the age of 52. Above all, he had emerged as an author and editor of children's and youth literature. Last but not least, his educational writings still contain valuable suggestions today. In Lutherstadt Wittenberg, there is a memorial plaque on the Jahnturnhalle , which reminds of his work as a teacher and founder of the gymnastics club. Since 2012 there has also been a memorial plaque at the "Zum Stern" inn in Friedersdorf, the birthplace of Ernst Lausch.
