history

At the inauguration of the church in Wörlitz on December 12, 1200, Gröbern was mentioned for the first time. In the 13th century a chapel was built by monks who came from Wörlitz. In the 15th century, the place belonged to Mr. Rabiel von Pouch. In 1531 Gröbern came to the Zschornewitz parish . The place was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years War . The first residents returned in 1653 and the place was inhabited again from 1686. The destroyed church was rebuilt in 1686–1699.

Before the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , the place was occupied by a French guard and 30 men. He was freed by Prussian dragoons . Until 1815 Gröbern belonged to the Electorate of Saxony ( Amt Graefenhainichen ), later to the newly founded district of Bitterfeld in Prussia .

In terms of transport, the place was opened up in 1824 with the construction of the Wittenberg-Bitterfeld road. The HSV Gröbern sports club was founded in 1921, the Gröbern volunteer fire brigade in 1925 and the first marching band in 1927 . In 1941 a pit was prepared to develop the brown coal reserves, and in 1944 the project was discontinued.

As part of the regional reform, Gröbern came to the newly founded district of Graefenhainichen in 1952 . The multi-purpose building was built from 1974 to 1979. Preparations for the opening of the Gröbern opencast mine were made in the 1980s , and the first coal train was running in March 1985. On June 8, 1987, a 100,000 year old skeleton of a forest elephant was found there. In 1993 the opencast mine was closed. Since the same year, the community has belonged to the newly established administrative community in painbach . In 1994 the place moved back to the Bitterfeld district. On December 5, 1995, the regional council handed over the certificate of the use of a coat of arms. In 1998 the association "ZEUSS" ("Center for Recreation, Environment, Sport and Social Affairs" - children and youth are future) was founded to promote and set up a project of the same name on the former open pit. Since July 1, 2007, Gröbern has been part of the new Anhalt-Bitterfeld district . On January 1, 2010, the place was incorporated into the newly founded community Muldestausee .

coat of arms

Coat of arms

Blazon : “Square of blue and gold; Field 1 and 4: two golden ears of wheat, field 2 and 3: a black miner's tooth. "

In order to use an officially approved coat of arms, the municipality at that time commissioned the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch with the design and initiation of the approval process. Agriculture in Gröbern was the source of income for centuries. It was a typical farming village with agriculture and some livestock. Mining has been practiced in the region in the recent past. Based on these circumstances, heraldic elements were decided: Agriculture symbolizes two golden ears of wheat in the four-sided shield on two blue squares, and mining a black mallet and iron on two golden squares .

The colors of Gröbern are yellow and blue.
