history

Fienstedt was first mentioned in a document in 1222. The place belonged to the rule Friedeburg . With the sale of the rule Friedeburg with the castle district Salzmünde to the Counts of Mansfeld in 1422 Fienstedt came to the County of Mansfeld . It belonged to the Oberamt Friedeburg in the Schraplau district . After two inheritance divisions by the Counts of Mansfeld in 1501 and 1563, Fienstedt belonged to the Mansfeld-Vorderort line . Until 1562 Fienstedt was a court capital. Due to the high indebtedness of the Mansfeld Counts, their territory came under the compulsory administration of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg and the Electorate of Saxony in 1579 . Fienstedt came to the Magdeburg administrative area and thus when the county was divided in 1738/80 to the portion of the Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg . With the Peace of Tilsit , the place Fienstedt was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. It was the capital of the canton of Fienstedt . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the area in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Fienstedt was attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and incorporated into the Mansfeld Seekreis .

In the course of the first district reform in the GDR, Fienstedt was reclassified to the Saalkreis on July 1, 1950 . With the second district reform in 1952, Fienstedt came into the newly tailored Saalkreis in the Halle district , which was added to the Saalekreis in 2007. Until the new formation of the unified municipality of Salzatal on January 1, 2010, Fienstedt was an independent municipality in the administrative community of the Western Saalkreis . The last mayor of Fienstedt was Uwe Thomas.
