Höhnstedt is a district of the unified municipality of Salzatal in the Saale district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

geography

Höhnstedt is about 5 km west of the city limits of Halle (Saale) . The place is on the southern edge of a plateau with fertile loess soil , which is about 60 to 80 meters above the Eisleben depression , in a valley basin . The Wellbach flows south in a valley cut along a geological fault . In the western half of the village is the Gänseberg (173.8 meters) as a flat elevation.

history

Archaeological finds from the Neolithic and the Middle to Late Bronze Age prove a prehistoric settlement in the Höhnstedt area. A stone box grave of the bell-cup culture and two grave fields of the Helmsdorf group were found.

In the area are "four stones", which are interpreted as the remains of a medieval court . They are also said to have been used as nail stones . Höhnstedt is assigned to the early medieval settlement period. It was first mentioned in 1121 as Hoenstede (1325 Honstete ) and was in the archdeaconate district of Eisleben of the Diocese of Halberstadt . The name is derived from the Old High German hōh for high or hōhī for height and describes a high-altitude settlement.

The cluster village Höhnstedt was one of the most populous settlements in the area in the Middle Ages. A noble family named after the place was probably the owner of a manor . In 1320 Höhnstedt came to the county of Mansfeld and was subordinated to the Seeburg office in the Schraplau district . In 1400 there were three churches or chapels in the village.

The Höhnstedt manor, which was north of the town center, cultivated 132 hectares in the 18th century . There were also seven full horses , eight half horses and 65 kossats . In total, the district had 765 hectares of fertile farmland and 52 hectares of vineyards . Viticulture flourished between the 14th and 16th centuries. Viticulture in the region was already described in a document from Otto II in 973 . In 1583 there were 93 households in the village, resulting in an approximate population of 465. In 1734 Höhnstedt was described as one of the best and largest villages in the county of Mansfeld.

In the course of the division of the County of Mansfeld, Höhnstedt came to the Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg with the Seeburg office . With the Peace of Tilsit in 1807, the place was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. He came to the canton of Seeburg . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the area in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Höhnstedt was attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and incorporated into the Mansfeld Seekreis .

In 1880 a Rittmeister Wendenburg acquired the Höhnstedt manor, at the beginning of the 20th century a Carl Wenzel from Teutschenthal . After viticulture in the region had meanwhile come to a complete standstill, it was re-established from the 1920s. After 1945, after the expropriation of the manor in the northeast, extensive stables of the LPG "Red Banner" Höhnstedt were built. With 2,300 dairy cows in five stalls, the LPG provided a fifth of the district's milk production .

In the course of the first district reform in the GDR, Höhnstedt was reclassified to the Saalkreis on July 1, 1950 . With the second district reform in 1952, Höhnstedt came into the newly tailored hall circle in the Halle district , which was added to the Saalekreis in 2007. Until the formation of the unified community Salzatal on 1 January 2010 Höhnstedt was an independent municipality in the Westlicher Saalkreis . Michael Scheffler is the local mayor of Höhnstedt.

coat of arms

The oldest community seal dates back to 1747. It depicts a farmer who is holding three ears of corn in his right hand and a bunch of grapes in his left hand. On his right foot there are outlines that may represent rocks or sacks.

The coat of arms, which was approved by the regional council of Halle on November 7th, 1997 shows: "In green a standing golden winegrower with headgear, in the right hand holding three upright golden ears of wheat on the stalk, in the left holding a stalked hanging golden grape."
