Building

history

In the Middle Ages there are said to have been up to three churches in the Höhnstedt wine-growing village, some of which were profaned during the Reformation and also used as stables. Only one church was used. As the population grew, it was decided to build a new church in place of the existing village church in the center of the village. When the old church was demolished, a church bell dated 1483 and a stone with the engraved date 1484 were found. The neo-Gothic , to the Tudor style ajar construction was started by various sources in 1820 and completed in 1831 or built from 1830 to 1832/1833. Plans for the construction come from the royal Prussian building inspector or city master builder Johann Justus Peter Schulze .

The previous church was consecrated to Saints Lucia of Syracuse and Odilia of Cologne , which is considered an unusual combination. The patronage can be traced back to 1582 at the latest , but it did not exist around 1400. Both saints have their name day on December 13th, so that it is assumed that this was the date of the consecration of the church or otherwise significant.

Exterior design

The cruciform church is built from gray quarry stone . In the west there is a church tower , which has a square plan in the lower part and an octagonal plan in the upper part. The slate- studded spire is also octagonal . A clock tower points to the west .

Interior design

Inside there is a three-quarter circular gallery that only leaves out the area of the semicircular chancel. The altarpiece shows Jesus Christ. The pulpit is to the right of the altar . There is a baptismal font in the center . There is an organ on the gallery in the east . This was built in 1832 by organ builder Friedrich Wilhelm Wäldner and overhauled by Furtwängler and Hammer in 1934.
