Karl Heinrich Jördens

Karl Heinrich Jördens (born April 24, 1757 in Fienstedt in Mansfeld ; † December 6, 1835 in Lauban ) was a German literary historian .

Jördens studied theology and philology in Halle (Saale) and became a teacher in Berlin in 1778 , where he edited several Greek and Roman classics. In Berlin in 1786 he married Caroline Eleonore Stiller; the marriage resulted in 17 children. In 1792 he became inspector of Bunzlau and in 1796 rector of the Lyceum in Lauban . In 1825 Jördens was retired. His “Lexicon of German Poets and Proseists” (Leipz. 1806–11, 6 vols.) Is particularly valued for the bibliographical notes.
