Heinrich Julius Kämmel

Heinrich Julius Kämmel (born February 17, 1813 in Saalendorf , † September 24, 1881 in Zittau ) was a German high school teacher .

biography

Kämmel was a son of the factor Carl Gottlieb Kämmel. He studied philology and history at the University of Leipzig from 1833 to 1837 . From 1838 he was a teacher at the grammar school in Zittau , from 1845 sub-rector, from 1851 vice rector, from 1854 rector. In addition to his teaching activities, he published lively, mainly on historical topics.

Kämmel was also politically active: in 1849 he was a member of the first Saxon constituency for the Frankfurt National Assembly , and from December 1849 a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament in Dresden. From 1871 he was a city councilor in Zittau, and in 1877 he took over the post of head of the poor. In 1879 he became an honorary citizen of Zittau.

His son Otto Kaemmel (1843-1917) was also a grammar school teacher and director of grammar schools in Dresden and Leipzig.
