Struve is the lava -filled rest of a lunar impact crater . It is located in the western part of the Oceanus Procellarum .

The north rim of the crater crosses the rim of the smaller Russell crater , so that both together form an eight (8) shape. In the southeast are the remains of Eddington , which is also flooded with lava . The Balboa crater is more likely to be found in the southwest .

The edge wall of Struve is irregularly high and partially interrupted, so that there are connections to the surrounding Oceanus Procellarum. You can hardly see the actually round mountain range. There are several minor impact points in Struves Randwall, most of them in the southwest. The secondary crater Struve G overlaps with the western part of the Struve crater, and directly to the north there is a breakthrough to the Oceanus Procellarum along the outer walls of Russel and Eddington.

The formation used to be called Otto Struve , but since one wanted to honor the other two family members of Otto Struve, who were also astronomers, the area is now only called Struve.
