Peter Bräth (born May 9, 1956 in Bad Bevensen ; † September 3, 2018 ) was a German lawyer and ministerial official . From February 19, 2013 to July 31, 2015, he was State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture .

education and profession

After training for the higher general administrative service of the state of Lower Saxony with the district president in Lüneburg (1972–1977), Peter Bräth worked for the district government of Hanover until 1981. He then studied law at the University of Hanover and completed the state examination in 1988 with the qualification for judicial office .

From 1988 to 1990 he worked as a consultant at the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and then moved, initially as a consultant, to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education, where he was head of the school law department, parent and student representatives, school authorities, all-day schools, the state school advisory board and deputy head of department until 2013 the department of general education schools, day-care centers of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture.

From 2003 to 2012 he was co-editor of the magazine "Schulverwaltung - Ausgabe Niedersachsen (SchVw NI)" (Wolters Kluwer Germany, Carl Link, ISSN  1865-2050 ).

On February 19, 2013 he was appointed State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education in the Weil I cabinet. On July 10, 2015, he announced that he would not be able to continue the office for health reasons. He then left office on July 31, 2015, went into provisional retirement the next day and was replaced as State Secretary by Erika Huxhold .

Peter Bräth was married and has one son.
