Holger Ortel (born January 10, 1951 in Nordenham ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school , Ortel completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter from 1966 to 1969 and then worked as a clerk in work preparation. From 1970 to 1974 he completed part-time training as a REFA technician. Ortel then worked as production manager until 1984.

He then moved to the German Bundestag as an employee and was finally the full-time managing director of the SPD district of Weser-Ems from 1986 to 1998.

In 2007 Holger Ortel was elected President of the German Fisheries Association, of which he was a member of the Presidium. The association brings together all German anglers and fishermen and has 1.1 million members.

Holger Ortel is married and has one son.

Political party

Ortel joined the SPD in 1971 and was chairman of the SPD sub-district Delmenhorst from 2004 to March 2009 .

MP

From 1972 to 1974 Ortel belonged to the municipal council of Burhave and after the municipal reform until 1984 to the municipal council of Butjadingen .

Since 1998 he has been a member of the German Bundestag and since 2002 spokesman for the Lower Saxony regional group and from 2009 to 2011 the joint Lower Saxony / Bremen regional group in the SPD parliamentary group . Since 2005 he was also Vice Chairman of the German- ASEAN - Parliamentary Friendship Group .

Holger Ortel entered the Bundestag in 1998, 2002 and 2005 as a directly elected member of the constituency Delmenhorst - Wesermarsch - Oldenburg-Land . In the 2005 Bundestag election , he achieved 50.1% of the first votes . In the 2009 Bundestag election he achieved 34.7% of the first votes and therefore only entered the Bundestag via the state list.

In 2013 his membership in the German Bundestag ended. His successor in constituency 28 - Delmenhorst - Wesermarsch - Oldenburg-Land is Susanne Mittag , she was elected via the state list and looks after this constituency.
