Willi Waike

Willi Waike (born January 20, 1938 in Rühle , now a district of Bodenwerder ) is a German SPD politician. From 1996 to 1998 he was Lower Saxony's finance minister . Waike is married and has two children.

Professional background

Willi Waike attended a secondary school in Holzminden . After graduation, he completed an apprenticeship as a legal assistant. He initially worked as an office manager in a law firm in Bielefeld . From 1960 to 1961 he did military service. He then became an employee of the Holzminden district from 1961 to 1965 , and in 1966 he was taken on as a civil servant. From 1978 to 1982 he was head of the finance department and municipal supervision and from 1980 also general representative of the district director.

Political career

Willi Waike joined the SPD in 1961. From 1964 to 1973 he was a member of the Rühles council. There he became deputy mayor, deputy municipal director, and he took over the chairmanship of the SPD in the council of the municipality of Rühle. From June 21, 1982 to June 20, 1994 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament (10th to 12th electoral term) and from 1986 to 1994 a member of the Holzmindener district assembly. He was the SPD chairman in the committee of inquiry around the secret service agent Werner Mauss . Waike planned to retire from politics in 1994, but after the state election he took over the management of the Lower Saxony State Chancellery with the rank of minister and was Lower Saxony's finance minister from 1996 to 1998. His predecessor as finance minister was Hinrich Swieter , his successor Heinrich Aller .
