In April 2016 it became known that Schmidt employed Stefan Träger in his constituency office, who was nominated as a candidate for the Bundestag by the NPD in 2009. According to their own statement, porters have distanced themselves from the NPD.

After the wing was classified by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in March 2020 as a right-wing extremist group, which is now being observed, Wenzel said: "A large part" of the AfD members in Saxony-Anhalt support the group's political positions. There are particularly many supporters in the country for the topics that the wing is addressing.
