politics

Diederichs was a member of the SED from 1987 to 1990 . Between 2011 and 2014 he was a member of the SPD .

In June 2014 Diederichs became a member of the AfD and took over the chairmanship of the AfD district association Mansfeld-Südharz. In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 2016 , he entered the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt with 31.5 percent of the first votes as a direct candidate for his party in the constituency of Eisleben (constituency 32) .

At the beginning of June 2017 Diederichs resigned from the AfD parliamentary group. He justified the decision with a “shift to the right” by the parliamentary group and the regional association. As an example, he cited the lack of intervention by the parliamentary group and state executive committee when some did not adhere to the incompatibility resolution with the right-wing extremist identity movement issued by the AfD federal executive committee. In contrast to the parliamentary group members Sarah Sauermann and Gottfried Backhaus , who had also resigned a few days earlier , he not only resigned from the parliamentary group, but also from the party.

On June 13, 2017 Diederichs was accepted into the CDU parliamentary group. This step was rejected by parts of the CDU base, in particular the district association Mansfeld-Südharz. On January 2, 2020, Diederichs left the CDU parliamentary group again and has since exercised his mandate as a non-attached member of parliament. At the same time he joined the Free Voters . On January 25, 2020, he became chairman of the newly founded district association Mansfeld-Südharz of the Free Voters party.
