Maria Guida

Maria Guida (born January 23, 1966 in Vico Equense ) is a former Italian long-distance runner and former European marathon champion .

Maria Guida began her career as a track runner . In 1991 she won her first Italian championship in the 10,000 meter run . Four more titles followed from 1993 to 1996, and in 2001 she won the sixth title on this route. At the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993 , she reached twelfth place after 32: 15.34 minutes. In Helsinki at the European Championships in 1994 , she finished sixth over 10,000 meters with the national record of 31: 42.14 minutes. A year later she ran at the World Championships in Gothenburg 31: 27.82 min and finished fourth.

Already during her rail career, Guida competed in road running. In 1994, 1999 and 2002 she was Italian champion in the half marathon . At the Half Marathon World Championships in 1998 Guida finished 15th in the individual ranking and was sixth with the team. In 2002 she finished 30th and was sixth again with the team.

In 1992 she ran her first marathon, in 1999 she won the Turin Marathon and the Maratona d'Italia . In 2001 she won the Rome Marathon . At the European Championships in 2002 , she won the biggest title at the end of her career. In 2:26:05 h, she came close to her best time and won with just under a minute ahead of the two Germans Luminita Zaituc and Sonja Oberem .

Maria Guida is 1.60 m tall and weighed 49 kg at competition times.
