Maratona d'Italia
The Maratona d'Italia (full name since 1999 Maratona d'Italia memorial Enzo Ferrari ) is a marathon in the province of Modena that has been taking place since 1988. The race has started in Maranello since 1999 and leads through the center of Modena to Carpi .
history
The run was launched by the clubs La Patria, Atletica Cibeno and AS Maratona d'Italia on the eightieth anniversary of the participation of marathon runner Dorando Pietri, who was born in nearby Correggio , in the 1908 Olympic Games (in which he tragically missed victory) . For Enzo Ferrari's 100th birthday in 1998, the organizers sought collaboration with Piero Ferrari , the municipalities of Maranello, Formigine , Modena, Soliera and Carpi, the province of Modena, the Emilia-Romagna region and the Accademia Militare di Modena . In the following year, the current course of Maranello was established as a traditional destination in Carpi.
A marathon for speed skaters has been part of the event since 2001 .
So far, the Italian marathon championships have been held six times as part of the Maratona d'Italia (1991, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2008).
route
The start is at the Ferrari headquarters in Maranello. After a short loop through the center of this city, it goes via Formigine to the center of Modena. After a loop through the old town, where the Piazza Grande with the Cathedral of San Geminiano and its Ghirlandina tower is crossed, the second half of the route begins, which first leads over the Secchia , then crosses Soliera and on to Piazza Martiri in Carpi ends.
The course is measured according to the guidelines of AIMS and IAAF , but due to the steep gradient between start and finish (about 100 meters in altitude ) it is not suitable for the best list.
