Irina Bogatschowa (athlete)

Irina Bogatschowa ( Russian Ирина Богачёва, English transcription Irina Bogachova / Bogacheva ; born April 30, 1961 ) is a Kyrgyz marathon runner .

She made her first international appearance for the Soviet Union at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart with a 17th place. In 1987 she won the Athens Marathon , and in 1989 she won the Universiade in Duisburg , whose marathon was held as part of the Rhine-Ruhr Marathon . Her winning time of 2:35:09 h is still the course record today.

In 1999 she was fifth in the Chicago Marathon in 2:27:46 (Kyrgyz record), in 2000 she was second in the Boston Marathon in her personal best of 2:26:27 and in 2003 she was third in the Nagoya Marathon in 2:28:17.

She finished second at the Honolulu Marathon in 1997, won in 1998 and 1999, and finished fifth in 2002. She recorded two victories at the Grandma's Marathon (1995 and 1997) and at the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon (1999 and 2003). She also won the Maratona d'Italia in 1991 and the Los Angeles Marathon in 1999 ,

She represented her country three times in Olympic marathons: in 1996 in Atlanta she finished 21st, 2000 in Sydney she came 14th, and in 2004 in Athens she did not finish.

She holds the national records over 3000 m (9: 05.18 min), 10,000 m (33: 16.10 min), in the 10 km (33:32 min) and 15 km road race (51:13 min) as well as in the half marathon (1:15:35 h).

In addition, she is (as of October 2009) the woman with the most marathons under 2:35 h (38), under 2:40 h (59) and under 2:50 (70).
