Alemitu Bekele Degfa (born September 17, 1977 in the Shewa province ) is a Turkish middle and long distance runner of Ethiopian origin.

Career

At the World Cross Country Championships she took 17th place on the short distance in Marrakech in 1998 and sixth place in Belfast in 1999 .

In 1999 she moved to Turkey. There she acquired Turkish citizenship through marriage and took the surname Çolakoğlu .

After a break of several years, during which she became a mother, she returned to competition in 2007 and qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where she finished seventh in the 5000 meters .

The following year she won at the European Indoor Championships in Turin over 3000 meters .

doping

After irregularities were found in her Biological Passport , she was banned from the IAAF until 2016 for doping in 2013 . All results after August 17th, 2009 have been canceled. These included a 13th place over 5000 m at the World Championships in Berlin , a 2010 indoor European record over 5000 m, a fifth place over 3000 m at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha, a first place at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona and a second place at Athletics Continental Cup 2010 in Split.

The 5000 meter times of 14: 52.20 min (open air) and 14: 46.44 min (indoor) achieved in 2010 were canceled due to doping.
