Derval O'Rourke

Derval O'Rourke (born May 28, 1981 in Cork ) is an Irish athlete who specializes in hurdles . She holds the Irish record both over 60 m and over 100 m. O'Rourke attended University College Dublin thanks to an athletic scholarship . She now trains on the facilities of Dublin City University and works as a marketing assistant for the university sports club.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she was eliminated in the semifinals. The first major success was winning the bronze medal at the Universiade in Izmir in 2005 over 100 m.

She caused a surprise at the 2006 World Indoor Championships in Moscow when she won the gold medal over 60 m. She improved the Irish national record twice and ran a time of 7.84 s in the final. She left the Spaniard Glory Alozie and the Swede Susanna Kallur behind.

At the end of July 2006 she improved the Irish record over 100 m to 12.85 s. At the European Championships in 2006 she was able to improve again and won the silver medal with a new record time of 12.72 seconds, behind Susanna Kallur and at the same time as the German Kirsten Bolm . Four years later she set a new Irish record at the 2010 European Championships with 12.65 s, and again won the silver medal.
