Jaysuma Saidy Ndure (born July 1, 1984 in Bakau ) is a Norwegian athlete who comes from the West African state of Gambia and has specialized in the 100 and 200 meter distances . He won bronze at the 2004 African Championships and the 2012 European Championships.

Life

Saidy Ndure, 1.92 m tall and 72 kg heavy (competition information), trains at the IL i BUL club in Norway, where he has been living since 2001. On December 6, 2006, he took on Norwegian citizenship and has been working for Norway since 2007.

He won the bronze medal in the 100-meter run at the 2004 African Championships . Shortly thereafter, he was the flag bearer of the Gambia during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens and participated in two competitions. In the 100-meter run he reached 10.26 s in the lead, setting a new national record for Gambia. In the interim he was eliminated with 10.39 s. In the 200-meter run, he was also eliminated in the intermediate run (lead: 20.78 s, intermediate run: 20.73 s).

At the 2005 World Championships , he reached the semi-finals in the 200-meter run (lead: 20.14 s / wind: 4.3 m / s; intermediate run: 20.95 s; semi-finals: 20.75 s). On May 12, 2006 he ran the 200 m in 20.59 s at the IAAF Super Tour in Doha and won ahead of the German participants Sebastian Ernst and Daniel Schnelting . In 2007, Saidy Ndure tested positive for cannabis during a doping control meeting in Lucerne . The result was then canceled and, as a first-time offender, he received a public warning from the World Athletics Federation. In the autumn of the same year he won the 200-meter run at the world finals in Stuttgart, improving to 19.89 seconds and finishing second over 100 meters. At the 2008 Olympic Games , he was eliminated on both routes in the intermediate run.

At the 2009 World Championships , Saidy Ndure reached the semi-finals on the 100-meter course in Berlin. In Barcelona he came to the finals at the European Championships 2010 on both sprint routes and finished sixth and fifth. In 2011, he stayed below the ten-second mark in the 100-meter run in Lausanne and improved to 9.99 seconds. At the World Championships in Daegu, however, he was eliminated in the semifinals. He was better in the 200-meter run, where he reached the final and finished fourth behind the Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre with a time of 19.95 s . In 2012 Saidy Ndure won the bronze medal in the 100 meter run at the European Championships in Helsinki. Shortly afterwards he took part in his third Olympic Games in London and reached the semifinals over 200 meters.
