Daniele Meucci (born October 7, 1985 in Pisa ) is an Italian long-distance runner .
Career
He originally played football for the team from Navacchio, a district of Cascina . At the age of 17 he switched to running.
So far he has twice been the Italian champion over 5000 (2007, 2008), three times over 10,000 (2006, 2007, 2010) and twice in the hall over 3000 meters (2008, 2009).
In 2006 he came in tenth place at the European Championships in Gothenburg over 10,000 meters. In 2008 he finished 99th at the World Cross Country Championships and was twelfth at the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels .
The following year he was fifth in the Stramilano , retired at the World Championships in Berlin over 5000 meters in the run and came in 18th place at the Half Marathon World Championships in Birmingham . At the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin he was ninth and won bronze with the Italian team.
In 2010 he was fifth in Roma - Ostia and eleventh in the Rome Marathon . At the European Championships in Barcelona he won the bronze medal over 10,000 meters behind Mohammed Farah and the same time Christopher Thompson and was sixth over 5000 meters.
In 2012 he won the silver medal at the European Championships in Helsinki behind Polat Kemboi Arikan, who previously ran for Kenya under the name Paul Kipkosgei Kemboi . He took fifth place over 5000 meters.
Daniele Meucci is 1.78 m tall and weighs 62 kg. As a sports soldier he starts for C. S. Esercito, the association of the Italian army . He is trained by Luigi Principato, studies computer science at the University of Pisa and is engaged to the middle-distance runner Giada Bertucci.
Meucci achieved his greatest success at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich with victory in the marathon in a new personal best of 2:11:08 h. At the European Championships in Amsterdam in 2016 , he won the bronze medal in the first half marathon.
At the Frankfurt Marathon 2019 he was eighth and the best non-African born athlete.
