Janne Sven-Åke Holmén (born September 26, 1977 in Jomala ) is a Finnish long-distance runner from the autonomous Åland Islands and former European marathon champion .

Life

He was national champion in the 10,000 meter run four times (1999-2001, 2003). He set his best time over this distance on June 15, 2003 with 28: 09.94 minutes in Turku .

His greatest success so far is the victory in the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 , in which he improved his personal record by over four minutes to 2:12:14 h. The following year, he stayed below this mark in the Berlin Marathon with 2:12:10 h, which was only enough for 13th place.

At the marathon of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he finished 22nd and at the marathon of the European Championships 2006 in Gothenburg place 7th A year later he was ninth at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka . In 2008 he started his second Olympic Games in Beijing and finished 19th.

Janne Holmén is the son of the Finnish athletes Rune Holmén and Nina Holmén . Like his parents, he belongs to the Finland-Swedes ethnic group .
