The soccer team of Cienfuegos is the national team from the province of Cienfuegos , based in the provincial capital of the same name on the southwest coast of Cuba . The team, nicknamed Marineros (seamen), plays in the national competition of Cuba, the Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol , which they have won four times since 1985.
Between 2002 and July 2009, the then goalkeeper of the Cuban national soccer team, Dany Luis Quintero, played for Cienfuegos until he withdrew from a training camp in Germany. Another player who had defected, currently for the US club Charleston Battery playing Yeniel Bermúdez was active from 2006 to 2008 for Cienfuegos.
