Asuka Terada ( Japanese 寺 田 明日香 , Terada Asuka; born January 14, 1990 in Sapporo ) is a Japanese hurdler who specializes in the 100 meter distance .

Athletic career

Asuka Terada gained her first international experience in 2008 at the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz , where she was eliminated in the 100-meter run with 12.53 s in the first round and in the hurdles sprint reached the semifinals, in which she was eliminated with 13.85 s . The following year she qualified for the World Championships in Berlin and was eliminated there with 13.41 s in the first round. Then she won the silver medal behind the Chinese Sun Yawei at the Asian Championships in Guangzhou in 13.20 seconds . It was also used in the 4 x 100 meter relay in the run-up and thus contributed to winning the gold medal in Japan. In the following year she reached the final of the Asian Games there and finished fifth in 13.29 s. In addition, she was used in the relay in the run-up and therefore received a bronze medal, which Japan won behind the teams from Thailand and China. Terada competed at the national level until 2013, but then ended her career because of numerous injuries.

After their marriage and the birth of their child, she returned to athletics in 2019 and improved the national record in the hurdles sprint to 12.97 s in September, which enabled her to qualify again for the World Championships in Doha , where she had a lead of 13.20 s retired.

From 2008 to 2010 Terada was Japanese champion in the 100 meter hurdles. She graduated from the renowned Waseda University in Shinjuku .
