Jarrod Bannister

Jarrod Bannister (born October 3, 1984 in Townsville - † February 8, 2018 ) was an Australian javelin thrower .

In 2006 Bannister finished sixth at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne . At the 2007 World Athletics Championships in Osaka, he was eliminated in qualifying, and at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he was sixth.

In 2010 Bannister finished 4th at the Continental Cup in Split and won the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi . In the 2011 World Cup in Daegu, he finished seventh in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he failed in the first round.

Bannister won the Australian Championship five times (2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013). On February 29, 2008, he set the current Oceania record in Brisbane with 89.02 m.

In 2013, Bannister was banned for 20 months after missing three doping tests within 20 months. In his defense, Bannister unsuccessfully claimed inadequate communication from the doping authorities and the athletics association.

Bannister died in the Netherlands at the age of 33. According to media reports, it was a sudden death without suspicion of external influences.
