Shinji Takahira ( Japanese 高平 慎 士 , Takahira Shinji ; born July 18, 1984 in Asahikawa ) is a Japanese sprinter . He achieved his greatest successes with the 4 x 100 meter relay , with which he won the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he was eliminated over 200 m in the preliminary run and was fourth in the Japanese relay. In 2005 he failed again at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki over 200 m in the first round and was eighth in the relay. At the Universiade in Izmir , he won silver over 200 m. The following year he was third in the Asian relay at the Athletics World Cup 2006 in Athens. At the Asian Games in Doha , he won bronze in the 200 m and silver in the 4 x 100 meter relay. In 2007 he reached the quarter-finals at the World Cup in Osaka over 200 m; in the season, the Japanese quartet came fifth with the Asian record of 38.03 s.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing , he reached the quarter-finals again over 200 m and won the silver medal in the 4 x 100 m relay with his fellow runners in a time of 38.15 s.

In 2009, another quarter-final over 200 m and a fourth place in the relay followed at the World Cup in Berlin . At the Asian Championships in Guangzhou he won silver over 100 m and gold in the 4 x 100 meter relay. At the 2010 Athletics Continental Cup in Split, he came second with the Asia-Pacific relay.

In 2011 he defended the title with the Japanese relay at the Asian Championships in Kobe . At the World Championships in Daegu , he reached the semi-finals over 200 m.

At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , he made it to the semi-finals again over 200 m and came in fifth with the 4 x 100 meter relay. In 2014 he won silver with the Japanese relay at the Asian Games in Incheon .
