Wu Zhiqiang gained his first international experience at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan , where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals over 100 meters with 10.72 seconds. He also finished fifth with the Chinese 4 x 100 meter relay in 39.54 s. At the IAAF World Relays 2015 in the Bahamas , he was disqualified with the 4-by-200-meter relay in the preliminary round, while he was eliminated in the preliminary round with the 4-by-100-meter relay in 57.98 s. At the Asian Championships in Wuhan , he contributed to winning the gold medal for the Chinese team through his work in the preliminary run. Two years later he took the relay at the World Championships in London , where he finished fourth with 38.34 s in the final . In 2018 he finished seventh in the 60-meter run at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran in 6.84 s . The following year he won at the Asian Championships in Doha with a new record of 10.18 s, the bronze medal behind the Japanese Yoshihide Kiryu and Lalu Muhammad Zohri from Indonesia. He was also disqualified in the final with the Chinese relay. He then came fourth at the World Relays in Yokohama in 38.16 s and at the World Championships in Doha he reached sixth place in the final in 38.07 s.
