Sentayehu Ejigu

Sentayehu Ejigu (born June 21, 1985 in Debre Markos ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner .

The third of the Youth World Championships in 2001 in the 1,500 meter run lasted for the first time over 5,000 m under 15 minutes the following year . In 2004 it increased to 14: 35.18 min and was tenth at the Olympic Games in Athens . After that she was plagued with ankle and calf pain for a long time; nevertheless she was fourth over 3000 m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Moscow in 2006 . Since she looked after a sick sister until her death in October 2007, she put her career on hold and only started training again in 2008.

In 2009 she was fourth in the 5000 m at the World Championships in Berlin . The following year she won bronze over 3000 m at the World Indoor Championships in Doha and over 5000 m at the African Athletics Championships in Nairobi .

In 2011 she won the World's Best 10K .

She is the tenth of eleven siblings and comes from a merchant family. Her running talent was discovered at school and she moved to Addis Ababa in the late 1990s . There she joined the Banks association, where she met her future husband, the middle-distance runner Berhanu Alemu .
