Fabiana de Almeida Murer (born March 16, 1981 in Campinas ) is a Brazilian athlete and the current South American record holder in the pole vault .

Fabiana Murer was ninth in the 1999 Pan American Games , and in 2000 she finished tenth in the Junior World Championships. In 2003 it crossed the height of four meters for the first time. In 2005 she won her first Brazilian championship title. At the 2005 World Championships , she failed as 15th in the qualification. In 2006 Murer improved her personal best from 4.40 m to 4.66 m and thus also held the South American record. In addition to winning the Brazilian championships, she also won the Ibero-American championships.

In 2007 she defended her national title with 4.50 m and became South American champion, also with 4.50 m. At the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, she crossed 4.60 m and won 20 centimeters ahead of the American April Steiner . A month later, Murer mastered 4.65 m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka , finishing sixth.

At the World Indoor Championships in Valencia in 2008, Murer increased the South American indoor record to 4.70 m and, together with Monika Pyrek, was third behind Jelena Issinbajewa and Jennifer Stuczynski . On June 29, 2008 Fabiana Murer improved the South American record to 4.80 m in São Paulo.

At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu , she became world champion with a new South American record of 4.85 m. In London, however, they were already in qualifying for the Olympic Games . In 2013 she was fifth at the World Championships in Moscow with 4.65 m. At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , she won the silver medal by setting her South American record of 4.85 m. At the end of the year, Murer was voted Brazilian Athlete of the Year. At the Olympic Games in her home country in 2016 , she failed to qualify again without a valid attempt and was surprisingly eliminated.

Fabiana Murer is 1.72 m tall and has a competition weight of 64 kg. She is a trained physiotherapist.
