Jennifer Suhr (also: Jenn Suhr ; born February 5, 1982 in Fredonia , Chautauqua County , New York ) is an American pole vaulter who started under her maiden name Jennifer Stuczynski until her wedding in January 2010 .

The 2012 Olympic champion holds the indoor world record with 5.02 m (set up on March 2, 2013).

Career

During her high school and undergraduate studies at Roberts Wesleyan College , she was an excellent basketball player while also practicing athletics .

She only started pole vaulting in 2004. In 2005 she was the first US indoor champion, and in 2006 she also won the national title outdoors. In 2007 she won both titles, set a North American record with 4.88 meters and was tenth at the World Championships in Osaka .

In 2008 she won the silver medal with 4.75 m at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia , improved her North American record to 4.92 m at the US championships and won silver at the Olympic Games in Beijing , beaten only by world record holder Jelena Issinbajewa .

In 2009 she improved the national indoor record twice and won the US title both indoors and outdoors. In January 2010, Jennifer Stuczynski married her coach Rick Suhr and took his last name. With 4.89 m, which she led the world best list of 2010, Jennifer Suhr became US outdoor champion for the fifth time in a row in June.

At the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, Suhr finished fourth with a jump of 4.70 m. A year later she became Olympic champion in London and suggested a. a. the world record holder Jelena Isinbayeva . At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Suhr won the silver medal with 4.82 m behind Issinbayeva.

On March 2, 2013 she improved the world record to 5.02 m at the US Indoor Championships. Almost three years later, on January 30, 2016 in Brockport, she achieved a further increase to 5.03 m. A ratification of this achievement as an indoor world record did not take place, however, since no doping controls corresponding to the regulations were carried out.

On April 14, 2018, the 36-year-old improved her outdoor record at the Texas Invitational in Austin (Texas) to 4.93 m.

Jennifer Suhr is 1.83 m tall and weighs 64 kg. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology .
