Jéssica Augusto (born November 8, 1981 in Paris , France ) is a Portuguese long-distance and obstacle runner .

Career

In 2000 she became European junior cross-country champion . In the adult area, she became national champion for the first time in 2005, over 1500 meters outdoors. This was followed by national titles in cross-country running (2006-2008), over 3000 and 5000 meters (both 2006), over 1500 meters outdoors (2007) and indoors (2008) and in road running (2007, 2008).

In 2005 she started over 5000 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki , but was eliminated in the preliminary run. Over the same distance she came in 2007 at the World Championships in Osaka in 15th place and won gold at the Universiade .

In 2008 she added the 3000 meter obstacle to her repertoire and set a national record with 9: 22.50 minutes. At the Olympic Games in Beijing , she started over 5000 meters and over 3000 meters obstacle, but was eliminated in the preliminary run. At the end of the season she was runner-up in the European cross-country championship.

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, she was eleventh over 3000 meters obstacle. Shortly afterwards she won the Great North Run over the half-marathon distance in 1:09:08 h, although this time is not suitable for the best list because of the gradient of the route.

In 2010 she won the Cursa Bombers over 10 km. At the European Championships in Barcelona , she won the bronze medal over 10,000 meters. She closed the season with victories at the European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira and at the San Silvestre Vallecana in Madrid.

At the 2014 European Championships in Zurich , she won the bronze medal in the marathon in 2:25:41 h, as well as at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam in the half marathon in 1:10:55 h. In April 2017 she was able to win the Hamburg Marathon .

Jéssica Augusto is 1.65 m tall, weighs 46 kg and lives in Braga . She is in a relationship with Eduardo dos Reis Carvalho , the goalkeeper of the Portuguese national football team.
