Bernd Dierßen (born August 28, 1959 ) is a former German soccer player who played 140 first division games and scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga from 1984 to 1989 for the clubs FC Schalke 04 and Hannover 96 . In the 2nd Bundesliga he played 247 games and scored 27 goals.

Club career

youth

The junior player Bernd Dierßen, who came from DSC Feggendorf to the youth department of SV Arminia Hannover , quickly developed into a playfully and technically outstanding midfielder who was also able to run.

Arminia Hanover

In his second A youth year, 1977/78, the high school student made his debut with the "Blauen" from Bischofsholer Damm under coach Gerd Bohnsack on August 6, 1977, at the local derby against Hannover 96 in the 2nd Bundesliga North. At the side of Karl-Heinz Mrosko he acted in the Arminia midfield in the 0-1 defeat against the "Reds", who with Peter Anders , Rainer Stiller , Frank Pagelsdorf , Jürgen Milewski and Klaus Wunder were top players in the 2nd Bundesliga Had rows. In total, the youth player completed 24 second division games in 1977/78 and Arminia finished in 15th place.

In his first senior year 1978/79 he was a member of the regular line-up with 36 missions and three goals, with which Arminia was able to occupy twelfth place. When coach Bohnsack was replaced by István Sztani in 1979/80 , who was replaced in December by Achim Röhl , who was also replaced by Erich Garske from April to June 1980 , the talent with the Arminen experienced relegation.

Hannover 96

Therefore, Dierßen accepted the offer from Hannover 96 for the 1980/81 round and continued his career with the "Reds". The year before, he had offers from Bundesliga clubs 1. FC Köln and Borussia Mönchengladbach , but these did not come into play due to a meniscus injury. Under the guidance of coach Diethelm Ferner , the strong-running and lightweight midfield technician at the side of Jürgen Rynio , Peter Anders, Bernd Gorski , Gerhard Kleppinger , Karl-Heinz Mrosko and Dieter Schatzschneider became an integral part of the 96 team, with Bremen, Braunschweig and Hertha BSC topped the table in the 2nd division in 1980/81. Without scorer Schatzschneider and after the dismissal of coach Ferner in November 1982, Hannover 96 was no longer one of the top teams in the 2nd division in the 1982/83 season.

FC Schalke 04

Therefore Dierßen followed his sponsor Ferner to the 1983/84 round in the football west at Schalke 04. In fact, Königsblau succeeded in advancing to the Bundesliga with the 1984 runner-up. In 37 games with five goals, Dierßen had made his contribution alongside goalkeeper Walter Junghans, defensive boss Bernard Dietz and offensive star Olaf Thon .

In addition to the promotion, the games in the DFB Cup in this round were the second highlight for Dierßen and Schalke. After successes over Fortuna Düsseldorf, SC Charlottenburg, Karlsruher SC and in the quarter-finals over Hertha BSC in the replay, the semi-final match against FC Bayern Munich took place in Schalke on May 2, 1984 . In front of 70,600 spectators the score was 4: 4 after 90 minutes and ended in a 6: 6 draw after extra time. For playmaker Dierßen - an even bigger career prevented the lack of basic speed for the free-kick specialist - this game became one of the outstanding moments of his playing career. Schalke lost the replay eight days later in Munich with 2: 3 goals.

On the starting day of the 1984/85 season, Dierßen made his debut on August 24, 1984 in the 1: 3 away defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga. Coach Furthermore, in midfield, he bet on the formation with Michael Opitz , Caspar Memering , Dierßen and Thon. The newcomer finished eighth at the end of the round and the man from Hanover had worn the colors of Schalke in 33 games with three goals and, together with Thon, provided the striker Klaus Täuber (18 goals) with mostly usable passes. In the second Bundesliga round, Dierßen and colleagues came tenth in the table. Now Rolf Schafstall took over the coaching position at the old master and Dierßen got problems with the ex-defender of Hamborn 07 in his fourth round of Schalke, with whom he was not on the same wavelength. For Schalke, the round with the drop to 13th place did not go well and Dierßen was dissatisfied with his 22 appearances.

Return to Hannover 96 and end of career in Hameln

Since his contact with Hanover was actually never broken, there was an exchange with Martin Giesel and Dierßen, who returned to Hanover. With coach Jürgen Wähling , playmaker Dierßen and goalscorer Siegfried Reich , Hannover 96 finished tenth in the Bundesliga in 1987/88. "Shorty" scored five goals in 28 games and also followed the relegation of his ex-club Schalke 04. Twelve months later, after the round in 1988/89, Dierßen also experienced relegation from the Bundesliga with Hanover. Promotion coach Wählings clock had already expired on September 19, 1988, club icon Hans Siemensmeyer tried to turn things around for the better until March 21, 1989, only to hand it over to Reinhard Saftig , who was discouraged and who led the way to the second place with the "Reds". League had to compete. Dierßen came to 25 missions in the turbulent environment. He went with the way to the second division in 1989/90, but tore a cruciate ligament and ended his career in professional football at the age of 30 after five second division appearances with one goal.

He let his career come to an end in the association and major league at Prussia Hameln .

National team

Germany coach Herbert Widmayer put the Arminia talent for the first time on 12 November 1976 in the U-18 national team of the DFB the international match in Monaco as part of the Prince Albert Cup alongside Walter Junghans , Michael Harforth and Holger Willmer a . He took part in the 1977 UEFA tournament in Belgium, where the German representation finished fourth. The DFB national youth team played 23 games throughout 1977 and Dierßen was only absent in one match. In 1978, three more appearances followed in the DFB youth and Dierßen ended his 30th appearance on March 15, 1978 in the UEFA qualifying game in Schaffhausen against Switzerland, his international appearances in the U-18 national team.

The achievements of "Shorty", as he has been called since his time at Hannover 96, in Hannover were honored with his appointment to the DFB U21 team. From October 10, 1979 to September 22, 1981, he was featured six times in this talent team alongside Thomas Allofs, Uwe Dittus, Stefan Engels, Pierre Littbarski, Lothar Matthäus and Rudi Völler.

After the career

Dierßen actually wanted to become a primary school teacher after graduating from high school, but then embarked on a career in the commercial sector and has been employed as an accountant at the Lower Saxony Football Association in Hanover for years . Through various coaching positions in the amateur field - FC Stadthagen , Preußen Hameln, 1. FC Germania Egestorf / Langreder - he is still connected to football and was also one of the guests of honor at Olaf Thon's farewell game in the AufSchalke arena.

Personal

His son Tim (* 1996) followed in his footsteps at Hannover 96 and has been part of the Bundesliga squad since October 2013. He made his professional debut in April 2014.
