from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martin Giesel (born November 24, 1962 in Hanover ) is a former German professional footballer.

career

At the age of seventeen Giesel began his professional career in the 2nd Bundesliga, with SV Arminia Hanover , which, however, were relegated to the Oberliga Nord that year . In 1983 he moved to Hannover 96 and was able to establish himself as a regular player there. Thanks to his consistently good performance, the midfielder played a key role in the Hanoverians' surprising promotion to the 1st Bundesliga in 1985. The 96ers, however, immediately relegated, but managed to get back up immediately in the 1986/87 season. However, Giesel went to FC Schalke 04 . He got along well there at first, but then suffered a serious injury. Giesel's injury turned out to be so bad that after the 1988/89 season, he stayed there without a job, threw in the towel and filed an application for sports disability . His career as a professional player was thus over. Five years after the serious injury, Giesel's health had improved so much that he was even able to play one season for VfL Osnabrück in the Regionalliga Nord. He then ended his active playing career in his hometown, at Hannoversche SC .

Giesel made 99 second and 45 first division appearances. Today he works as an insurance salesman and works as an amateur trainer.
