Michael Opitz (born July 16, 1962 in Finnentrop ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

In his youth, Opitz played for SG Finnentrop / Bamenohl , a sports club from the Finnentrop community in the Olpe district . In 1976 he joined the youth department of FC Schalke 04 and stayed there for three years. In 1979 he moved up to the professional squad and made his debut on April 26, 1980 (30th matchday) in the 0: 4 defeat in the home game against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga . In the following season 1980/81 he succeeded on December 13, 1980 (17th matchday) with the goal to 2-0 in the 60th minute in the away game against 1. FC Köln his first Bundesliga goal.

Opitz remained loyal to the club - including two seasons in the 2nd Bundesliga - until May 21, 1988 (34th matchday).
