Yargelis Savigne Herrera (born November 13, 1984 in Niceto Pérez ) is a Cuban long and triple jumper .
At the beginning of her career, she focused on the long jump, was Central American-Caribbean Junior Champion in 2002 and won bronze at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo in 2003 .
In 2005 she was also successful in competitions in Europe in the triple jump, and so after winning the title in the long jump with 6.88 m at the Central American-Caribbean Championships, she decided to start twice at the World Championships in Helsinki . With the silver medal in the triple jump and a fourth place in the long jump, she achieved her greatest international success to date. Her best performance of 14.82 m, which she jumped in Helsinki, came within an inch of the athletics world finals in Monte Carlo and won the bronze medal.
At the World Indoor Championships in Moscow in 2006 , she was fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump. In July she improved her national triple jump record to 14.91 m, but then had to cancel the season due to illness. In 2007 she won gold in the triple jump and bronze in the long jump at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro . Savigne celebrated her greatest international success to date at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka . With a personal best of 15.28 m, she won the world title in the triple jump ahead of Russian Tatjana Lebedewa and Greek Chrysopigi Devetzi .
To her outdoor title she added a victory at the World Athletics Finals 2007 and the indoor world championships in 2008 in Valencia . At the Olympic Games in Beijing , she was third in the triple jump competition. In 2009 she jumped 14.95 m at the World Championships and successfully defended her world title. At the World Indoor Championships in 2010 in Doha , she won the silver medal behind Kazakh Olga Rypakowa with 14.86 m . In 2012 she took part in the Olympic Games in London , where she finished 9th with 14.12 m.
Yargelis Savigne is 1.65 m tall and 63 kg. She is in a relationship with the decathlete Yosley Azcuy and was trained as a sports teacher at the Havana Sports University.
