International League of Antiquaries

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International League of Antiquaries (ILAB, French: LILA) represents 20 national associations, 30 countries and 2000 leading antiquarians worldwide. Your logo should stand for integrity and professionalism in global trade.

Beginnings

The ILAB was founded in 1947 by European antiquarians with the desire to revitalize international cooperation in the post-war period and to resolve national differences. The network of antiquarians extends worldwide today.

aims

The goals that the founding members formulated in 1947 have remained almost unchanged since then. The ILAB should face three important tasks:

  • Maintain and improve international trade standards
  • Promote and maintain legitimate trade
  • Appreciation of the history and art of printing .

The experience of its members is the basis of the Code of Ethics , in which the ILAB has laid down the basic principles of fair global trade. This code is binding for all ILAB antiquarians.

Antiquarian book fairs

The international antiquarian fairs have developed into an important marketplace for the trade in antiquarian books, autographs and graphics after the Second World War and are supported by the association. These antiquarian fairs take place parallel to the ILAB congresses, for which antiquarians from all over the world meet at a different location every two years.

Bibliography Prize

Supporting science and research on the history of the book industry is an important concern of the ILAB. Your US $ 10,000 prize is awarded for exceptional achievements in this area. A jury consisting of antiquarians and academics will determine the winner.

National Associations

Twenty national associations form the association. Most of these associations provide information about their activities and members in brochures and member directories.

The national association of Austria is the Association of Antiquarian Booksellers in Austria .
