Paraskevi Tsiamita

Paraskevi Tsiamita ( Greek Παρασκευή Τσιαμίτα , born March 10, 1972 in Volos ) is a former Greek athlete .

After Paraskeví Tsiamíta had already exceeded the six-meter mark for the first time in 1987 as a 15-year-old in the long jump , she also took part in the Junior European Championships in 1987, but could not qualify for the final. After several injury breaks, she won bronze in the triple jump at the U23 European Championships in 1994 . In 1995, she increased her personal best to 13.27 meters before interrupting her sports career to complete her studies as a sports teacher at the University of Athens.

In 1998, in her first competition after two and a half years, she jumped 13.07 meters indoors. At the European Championships in 1998 she jumped 14.23 meters in qualification, but then just missed the finals in ninth place with 13.90 meters. Her compatriot Olga Vasdeki became European champion .

In the indoor season 1999 Paraskeví Tsiamíta improved further and was at the World Indoor Championships fifth with 14.63 meters.

The high point of her career was the 1999 World Championships in Seville. Already in the qualification she jumped the Greek national record with 15.07 meters. In the first round of the final, Tsiamíta jumped 14.88 meters. This distance was not reached by any jumper. The Cuban Yamilé Aldama was second with 14.61 meters and Olga Vasdeki won bronze.

Paraskevi Tsiamita is 1.71 m tall and weighed 60 kg at competition times. In 2000 Paraskeví Tsiamíta suffered a fatigue fracture in his foot and did not return to world class.
