Shannon Rowbury , full name: Shannon Nicole Rowbury , (born September 19, 1984 in San Francisco ) is an American middle -distance runner who specializes in the 1,500 meter distance .

As a student at Duke University , she was NCAA hall champion in the mile run and vice-champion over 3000 m in 2007 . Shortly thereafter, she suffered a fatigue fracture that made it impossible for her to participate in the 2007 outdoor season.

In 2008 she was US indoor champion over 3000 m and won the US eliminations for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where she was seventh. At the World Athletics Finals she was fifth.

As a US champion, she went to the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin . In the final, she came fourth behind the Spaniard Natalia Rodríguez , Maryam Yusuf Jamal from Bahrain and the British Lisa Dobriskey . After Rodríguez was subsequently disqualified for jostling, Rowbury received the bronze medal. At the world finals she was again fifth.

In 2010 she became US runner-up in the hall and third at the Athletics Continental Cup in Split . At the 2011 World Cup in Daegu, she was eliminated in the semi-finals.

Shannon Rowbury is 1.65 meters tall and weighs 52 kg. She is trained by John Cook.
