Natalia Rodríguez Martínez (born June 2, 1979 in Tarragona ) is a Spanish middle-distance runner .

Life

In 2000 in Sydney she took part in the Olympic Games for the first time. In the 1500-meter run , however, she was eliminated in the preliminary round. Just one year later, she reached the finals at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton and finished sixth. She achieved the same placement at the 2002 European Championships in Munich.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Rodríguez was tenth over 1500 meters. Over the same distance she finished sixth at the World Championships in Helsinki and at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. She won her first international medal at the 2009 European Indoor Championships in Turin when she was second behind Anna Alminowa .

Rodríguez achieved what was supposedly the greatest success of her career at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, when she was the first to cross the finish line in the final of the 1,500 meter run. However, she was disqualified a short time later because she had culpably brought down the leading runner Gelete Burka in an attempt to overtake about 200 meters from the finish .

At the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha, she won the silver medal in the 1,500 meter run. Over the same distance, she won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Barcelona . In 2011 she won the Cursa Bombers .

Natalia Rodríguez is 1.64 m tall and has a competition weight of 49 kg.
