José Luis Blanco , Catalan Josep Lluís Blanco Quevedo , also called "Wiss" (born June 3, 1975 in Lloret de Mar ) is a former Spanish obstacle runner .

Career

In 2000 he became the Ibero-American champion and in 2001 he won the silver medal at the Mediterranean Games . In 2003 he was eighth at the World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis , and at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki he came in 14th place.

In 2006 he won silver at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg . At the 2007 World Cup in Osaka, the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2009 World Cup in Berlin, he was eliminated in the preliminary stages. In 2010 he won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Barcelona in front of a home crowd .

In 2006 he became the Spanish champion in cross-country skiing on the short distance and in 2009 in the obstacle course. With a total of nine participations in the World Cross Country Championship , his best place was 27th on the short distance in 2002.

José Luis Blanco is 1.75 m tall and weighs 61 kg. He is trained by Luis Miguel Landa and starts for the CA La Sansi club.

Doping offense

Investigations were carried out against Blanco as part of the “ Operación Galgo ”. The use of EPO was proven after an inspection at the 2010 Spanish Championships in Avilés and a two-year ban was imposed on him in early 2011. The Spanish Athletics Federation did not comment on the incident for privacy reasons. The athlete was stripped of the national championship title in 2010, as well as the bronze medal at the European Championships in 2010. The two-year ban only expired after the World Championships in 2011 in Daegu and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
