Andrej Michnewitsch ( Belarusian Андрэй Міхневіч ; English transcription Andrei Mikhnevich ; born July 12, 1976 in Babrujsk ) is a former Belarusian shot putter who was banned for life because of multiple doping sins.

career

Michnewitsch was at the indoor world championships in 1999 with 19.44 m eighth in the shot put. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , he finished ninth with 19.48 m. In his first competition after the end of his first doping ban in 2003, he hit the ball to 21.66 m. A fortnight later he became world champion 2003 in Paris / Saint-Denis with a personal best of 21.69 m . In the same year he also won the Universiade .

In 2004 he was sixth with 20.50 m at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest . At the 2004 Olympic Games , he finished fifth with 20.60 m. In 2005 Michnewitsch became Belarusian champion for the second time after 2000.

Andrej Michnewitsch is 2.02 m tall and weighed 127 kg at competition times. He has been married to the 2006 European shot put champion, Natallja Michnewitsch (formerly Charaneka), since March 17, 2007 . He lives in Vitebsk with her and their son .

doping

At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton , Michnewitsch was first convicted of doping and banned for two years. At the beginning of March 2013, traces of the prohibited substances Clenbuterol , Metandienone & Oxandrolone were found in a sample from the 2005 World Championships in a subsequent doping test . The IAAF confirmed a lifelong ban in July 2013, which was then imposed by the Disciplinary Commission of the Belarusian Anti-Doping Agency and canceled all results since August 2005, which also resulted in the withdrawal of the bronze medal from Beijing.
