Amine Laalou ( Arabic أمين لعلو, DMG Amīn Laʿlū ; * May 13, 1982 in Salé ) is a former Moroccan middle-distance runner .

Career

At first he specialized in the 800-meter course and in 2001 was the African junior champion in this discipline. In the adult division, he was eliminated from the 2003 World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis, but finished fourth at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest the following year . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, he reached the semi-finals. In 2007 he was sixth at the World Championships in Osaka , and in 2008 he came back to the semifinals at the Olympic Games in Beijing .

From the 2009 season he started in the 1,500 meter run . At the World Championships in Berlin he was tenth over 800 m and fifth over 1500 m. Another fifth place over 1500 meters at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha was followed by winning the silver medal at the African Championships in Nairobi over the same distance .

Amine Laalou first wanted to be a basketball player like his father before his talent for running was discovered. He was trained by Ayoub Mendili and started for Olympique Marocain.

2012 doping ban

At the beginning of August 2012, Laalou's doping ( furosemide ) was found positive on July 20 at the Diamond League in Monaco and Laalou was refused entry to Great Britain for the 2012 Olympic Games . He was banned for two years.

Ayoub Mendili was banned from all activities in sport for eight years by the IAAF in June 2016 after an inspection in April . He works as a youth coach in Morocco.
