Mimi Belete

Mimi Belete (born June 9, 1988 ) is a Bahraini middle and long distance runner of Ethiopian origin.

In 2008 she won the Trier New Year's Eve run .

Starting for Bahrain, she finished 28th at the 2009 World Cross Country Championships in Amman. Over 1500 m she reached the semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin and was sixth at the Asian Athletics Championships.

In 2010 she came in 16th place at the Cross Country World Championships in Bydgoszcz and fourth over 1500 m in the Athletics Continental Cup in Split . At the Asian Games in Guangzhou she won over 5000 m and won bronze over 1500 m.

Over 1500 m she finished seventh at the 2011 World Cup in Daegu and reached the semi-finals at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In 2013 she won silver at the Asian Championships over this distance and reached the semi-finals at the World Cup in Moscow .

In 2014 she was eliminated from the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Sopot over 1500 m in the preliminary run. At the Continental Cup in Marrakech , sixth in the 1500 m and fifth in the 3000 m . At the Asian Games in Incheon , she won silver in the 1500 m and 5000 m.

At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, she was eleventh over 5000 m. In contrast, she missed the finals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

At the Hamburg Marathon in April 2018 she was third in 2:26:06 h. In October she won the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in a record time of 2:22:29 h.

Her sister Almensh Belete starts as a long-distance runner for Belgium.
