Lashinda Monique Demus (born March 10, 1983 in Palmdale , California ) is an American hurdler who has been successful in the 400 meter hurdles since the beginning of the 21st century .

Career

She won three national championships:

  • 2002 ( NCAA ) in 54.85 s
  • 2005 ( AAU ) in 53.35 s
  • 2006 (AAU) in 53.07 s

On July 19, 2002, she set a junior world record in Kingston with 54.70 s.

At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , she won the silver medal behind the Russian Julija Pechonkina , against whom she was already defeated in the semifinals, with a personal best of 53.27 seconds .

In 2009 she won the US 4 x 400 meter relay at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin ; in the cast of Debbie Dunn , Allyson Felix , Lashinda Demus and Sanya Richards , the season 3 required: 17.83 min. Previously, Demus had won silver behind Melaine Walker on her special route in 52.96 s .

At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu , Demus won the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.47 s. This makes her the third fastest runner of all time over this distance after Pechonkina and Melaine Walker.

In 2012 she traveled to the Olympic Games in London as a gold contender . In the final she was narrowly beaten by the Russian Natalja Antjuch in 52.70 s to 52.77 s and she got the silver medal. At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow , she won the bronze medal with 54.27 s.
