history

Horezu in the time between the world wars

The first written mention of Horezu comes from the year 1487. At that time the place belonged to the principality of Wallachia , which was under Ottoman rule.

However, according to archaeological finds, settlement of the place goes back to the Bronze Age .

Around 1700 the village was donated by the Wallachian prince Constantin Brâncoveanu to the Horezu monastery, which he founded . From 1780 Horezu was officially a market place and later a local administrative center. The first school opened in 1832. In 1968 Horezu was declared a city.

The most important branches of industry are agriculture and tourism. Many residents are involved in pottery.
