The men's 5000-meter run at the 1990 European Athletics Championships was held on August 30 and September 1, 1990 in the Poljud Stadium in Split .

European champion was the Italian Salvatore Antibo , who had won the 10,000 meter title here five days earlier . He was on this longer distance 1986 EM -Dritter and in 1988 became Olympic silver medalist. British rider Gary Staines took second place . Bronze went to the Pole Sławomir Majusiak .

Preliminary round

August 30, 1990

The preliminary round was held in two runs. The first five athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - and the five fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the final. The second run was significantly faster than the first, which meant that all participants who reached the finals over time came from this second run.
