The shot put women at the 1990 European Athletics Championships was on 27 August 1990 at the Poljud Stadium in Split discharged.

In this competition, the female shot putters from the GDR won two medals, gold and bronze. Astrid Kumbernuss became European champion . She won ahead of the 1988 Soviet Olympic champion and reigning world champion Natalia Lisovskaya . Bronze went to the Olympic runner-up in 1988 and vice world champion in 1987 Kathrin Neimke .
